Is this why Ronaldo has played away?

She strikes more than just a passing resemblance to her – and now rumours are rife that Letizia Filippi is the reason why Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo split with his girlfriend.
The 30-year-old, a beauty queen-turned-TV star, met the Portuguese player earlier this month while he was on holiday with Spanish model Nereida Gallardo on a yacht off the Mediterranean island of Capri. The player was said to have been instantly smitten by the dark-haired beauty.
The 23-year-old footballer allegedly dumped Gallardo, his girlfriend of five months, just before an ankle operation last week – although she insists the pair are together. But reports claim he had already set his sights on scoring with the former Miss Italy.
He 'bombarded Letizia with flowers and romantic text messages' and was later seen with her in LA, said reports in the Italian press.

Nereida "Furious" Over Ron's Womanizing

Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend is said to be "furious" over the soccer star's recent womanizing.
The Manchester United winger, 23, has been snapped getting cozy with a number of other women while holidaying in Los Angeles, infuriating the Spanish model. Several reports have also claimed that at least four women have been invited back to Ronaldo's hotel room during his stay.
Gallardo last week blasted rumors she had split from Cristiano, and has also been assured by the footballer their relationship is still on.
Nereida reportedly told a pal, "I've believed my man when he said he was being faithful - but these pictures look like he is a rat. He has some explaining to do."
A source close to the model told Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "If she texts him to ask what is going on, he texts back saying not to worry.
"But when she tries to call him he doesn't pick up the phone. She knows he's ignoring it - it just makes her more furious."

Red card for Ronaldo's girl: Man Utd star sends model lover packing

Cristiano Ronaldo may be in the market for a new job but it appears he could also be looking for a new girlfriend.

As speculation intensifies that the Portugal international may leave Manchester United, reports today suggested he has already quit his relationship.

The 23-year-old striker allegedly dumped his model girlfriend of five months, Nereida Gallardo, just before an operation on his injured right ankle last week.

The news is a shock after the pair spent two weeks all over each other on holiday in Sardinia.
But Portuguese tabloid 24 Horas said the reason for the split was "a secret of the gods".

But it hinted that Ronaldo, who is being linked to a multi-million-pound move to Real Madrid, was tired of lurid headlines about Majorca-born Gallardo and her past.

Recent tabloid revelations that she had a fling with Spain defender Sergio Ramos - who could become Ronaldo's team-mate should his move to Real Madrid get the green light - will not have helped

It also claimed she did not get on with Ronaldo's mother Dolores, who believed the model was after her son's money.

Gallardo had planned to spend the weekend in Portugal with Ronaldo but cancelled her flight after injuring her foot in a fall.

But she was well enough to go to Ibiza this weekend with a friend after booking a last-minute trip.

She flew to the island on Saturday and attended a private party until the early hours of yesterday.

She was thought to be at the Majorca home of mother Ana and stepfather Francisco Jose on the outskirts of the capital Palma.

Ronaldo was said to be resting at his home in Sintra, north of Lisbon.

Last month, the couple put on many public displays of affection for the paparazzi as they holidayed on a £10million yacht moored off Sardinia.

Ronaldo also said that a decision about his future will be made in a couple of days. However, ironically enough, he also confirmed that no agreement has been attained with Real Madrid.

New Compilations

Brief updates -> Ronaldo Saga

Man Utd deny reaching a fee agreement with Real Madrid

Manchester United denied reports released in Spanish journals, that a fee agreement, in connection to the Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer, has been reached.

The English club's officials are annoyed at the Marca newspaper, which is the "voice" of the Spanish club. Marca claimed that the two clubs are about to conclude Ronaldo's transfer. According to Marca, Real's original offer was that of £70 million, but then Real Madrid accepted the Red Devils' request of £83 million.

A Manchester United spokesman said that this news is nothing but paper talk.

"This is just speculation from an unreliable source. This is amateur journalism with the aim of unsettling the player. The European and English champions are ready to turn down any offer for the simple reason that Ronaldo is still under contract. Ronaldo is not for sale and after he undergoes the ankle surgery and has a recovery period, he is expected to return to Old Trafford for training."

Ronaldo is expected to have an ankle operation in the coming days and may miss the start of the 08/09 season. The injury may also keep him sidelined for about 6-8 weeks. This means, that provided Ronaldo stays at Manchester United, he will also miss the match against Liverpool at Anfield on the 13th September.

The Red Devils are also accusing the Portuguese FA of letting Ronaldo play during Euro 2008 while carrying an injury. However, the Portuguese association claimed that according to the national squad's medical staff, Ronaldo could keep on playing as normal as ever. As a matter of fact, Ronaldo never seemed to suffer from an injury.

Ronaldo as face of Soccerade brand

Cristiano Ronaldo has been taken on by specialist sports drink Soccerade to act as worldwide ambassador for the ambitious brand.
The fleet-footed footballer, who is now the fourth highest paid player in the world (and arguably the most recognisable), has been recruited to give the brand an edge against some of the more established names in the competitive sports drink sector.
He will now be used in launch advertising and promotional campaigns for major European markets, although it is reported that he may be consigned to the subs bench in countries where he is deemed to be slightly less popular. In this scenario high profile local players will step on to the Soccerade team.
The brand, which is said to have been specifically formulated for footballers, is owned by Icelandic firm Leppin.

Soccerade launches in Portugal in May, with a UK appearance expected later in the year.
