Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights on scoring a “lot more goals” and if his last season’s tally of 23 goals is the improvement on his previous term’s tally of 12, signs are ominous for the rivals.
The 22-year-old, regarded as one of the top footballers in the world, played a key role last season as the Red Devils won the Premiership. And with sufficient strengthening in the summer, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are brimming with confidence and targeting all silverwares on offer.
The Portugal winger is in a confident frame of mind with all the accolades of last season suggesting that Ronaldo has come a long way following his arrival in England with all the showboating skills that brought him fierce criticism.
Ronaldo, who became the first player to win both PFA player and young player of the year awards since Andy Gray in 1977, has scored in the pre-season outings in Far East against both Urawa Red Diamonds and FC Seoul.
“I try to improve every season,” said the former Sporting Lisbon player, who has recently signed a new deal at Old Trafford that runs until 2010.
“I have been in England for four years now. In my first season, I scored seven goals, in my second I scored nine, then 12 and last season I got 23.
“I have been playing well so far. I feel good and I feel fit and I have been helping the team.
“Hopefully, I can continue to do that because I hope to win the league again and I hope to score a lot more goals.”
