“I feel very lucky, because this book shows a bit more about Cristiano Ronaldo, both on and off the pitch”, affirmed the footballer who, for many, is the best player in the world. “The book is even better”, he commented with humility, raising an outbreak of laughter. Reaffirming that it should not be looked on as an autobiography, because he is still too young, Cristiano Ronaldo infected those present with his cheerfulness, happiness and good nature, particularly when he was asked if he considered himself the eighth Wonder of the World. “No”, he responded. “Not the eighth, the seventh, because seven is my number, it’s a number that I like a lot and that means lot to me”, he argued with a huge smile.
For the future, he personally promised more publications about the moments that are still to come in his sporting and personal life.
Manuela Brandão revealed that she felt “privileged and proud to have had the heavy responsibility of putting into words the vivid experiences of the player considered to be the best in the world and who also is an unequalled human being”, she thanked Gestifute for the opportunity and praised the company of Jorge Mendes for being able to deal with the demands of a top-level competitor. She also mentioned the role of Cristiano Ronaldo during the period of working on the book, as well as his enthusiasm, availability and humility – “rare virtues in stars at this level” – as well as that given by his mother, Maria Dolores, “who was a great help in providing some of the earliest stories”. “We bet on quality, and we are convinced that this is a winning bet. Anyone who reads ‘Moments’ will get to know the genuine and authentic Cristiano Ronaldo, the Cristiano Ronaldo behind the mask”, affirmed the author, hoping that the readers would feel the same pleasure when reading it and looking through it that she and Jorge Monteiro had felt during the five months it took to prepare.
Jorge Monteiro, who took the exceptional unpublished photographs of Cristiano Ronaldo, stated his pride at being one of the authors of the book and, returning to Ronaldo, expressed a wish: “I look forward to the day when you have a son and you can do what I have done with mine, Kiko, who you know. You will feel it inside you, and you will treasure these ‘Moments’”.
“Moments” is on sale throughout the country and costs 25 euros. The English version will be edited over the summer.
At the end of the book launch, Cristiano Ronaldo only had time to change his clothes and head to the Estádio da Luz, to be present at the ceremony of revealing the Seven New Wonders of the World. The Manchester United player unveiled the Chichén Itzá pyramid as one of the seven wonders, having obtained from the spectators what was, perhaps, the biggest round of applause of the night.
