United legend Law, who played alongside Best in the 1960s and early ’70s, is convinced Portuguese ace Ronaldo is every bit as dazzling as his Old Trafford predecessor. And he reckons the flying winger, 22, will eventually prove himself to be even better than the late, great Best.Law declared: “He’s so exciting. Yes, the way he’s playing there’s every chance that he’ll become United’s greatest ever player. “Of course it’s very difficult to compare him and Bestie in the circumstances because you’re going back many, many years.“But I suppose if Bestie was playing in the current United team, then they’d be on a par.”That is some accolade considering that even now, more than 30 years after his United career ended, Best is widely regarded as the most talented footballer to grace these shores.Few, though, are better placed to pass such a judgement than Law, who sees strong similarities between Fergie’s current Treble-chasers and Matt Busby’s United side which won the European Cup in 1968.King Law, who rattled 236 goals in 399 United appearances, explained: “In our team we had Bobby Charlton and Bestie.
“And you knew that even if you weren’t playing well, Bobby and Bestie would be able to do something special. “That’s exactly what they’ve got in the present United team with Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. They are such a formidable pair.”
And he believes Ronaldo’s new £31million contract at Old Trafford means nothing. “We knew this could happen.”
“Ronaldo is a quality player at a big club that is playing very well. We will see what happens in the summer. “In football, something happens one day and then it changes the next.”
Real have been chasing Ronaldo for the past two years and president Florentino Perez has placed him at the top of his transfer wish-list.His new United deal runs until 2012 and was thought to have killed off the interest from Spain, though Milan are continuing to try and entice him even though his signature would cost a world record £50m.Should Madrid not be able to lure Ronaldo away from the Premiership, they are thought to be ready to switch their attention to AC Milan’s Brazilian star Kaka.
